Babies
Babies are born with acute senses of hearing, smell, sight, and touch. In the past, it was assumed that newborn babies' senses were not as acute as those of older children and adults, but we know that is not the case. Babies can hear from inside the womb, and know the voice of their mother well. They also seem to recognize voices of other family members and people who have spent time with the mother during pregnancy. Newborn babies are very interested in seeing your face. Babies can see well at distances of eight to 15 inches, or the distance from their mother's breast to her face. If lights are dim after the birth, babies will open their eyes wide to look at everyone. The best place for a baby who has just been born is usually naked on their mother's bare skin. This allows a baby to stay perfectly warm, smell, see and hear you, and for you to love your baby.
