I began working in women's health care in 1995, when I volunteered for a maternal health organization in Nicaragua. I have always enjoyed providing information and health care to women. After earning a B.A. in Anthropology, I worked in a women's reproductive health clinic and became a doula. I attended Maternidad La Luz Midwifery School in El Paso, Texas in 2002. Becoming a midwife was particularly satisfying because it allowed me to offer women many more options for labor and birth and a more comfortable environment.
I have attended more than 100 births, including over 35 births as the primary midwife. I am certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and CPR. I have also provided doula support to women and their families at hospital births. I speak Spanish fluently and like working with Latino families.
I am passionate about supporting pregnant women and families to birth in the environment that they choose for themselves and their babies. I provide compassionate care. I get to know my clients well during prenatal visits to better support them and their families during labor and birth. Natural childbirth is safer than typical hospital care, and gives babies the most gentle and loving welcome into the world.
